Family-Friendly Holiday Vacation Ideas

Tis the season to be booking holiday cruises, ski vacations and tropical getaways. With students on Christmas break, planes and hotels will be filled to the gills next month.

If you haven’t solidified your family’s holiday vacation plans yet, you might want to get cracking. Parents magazine is lending a hand to procrastinating moms and dads by publishing its annual list of top 10 places in snowy destinations that cater to families.

The following resorts got high marks for offering a variety of on-site family activities, quality ski lessons for young children, upscale rooms, child care services, kids’ clubs or supervised play areas, and amenities like childproofing supplies. In addition, each resort offers rates for less than $250 per room per night or $400 for an all-inclusive daily package for a family of four.

Parents magazine’s list includes:

Jackson Gore Inn in Ludlow, Vermont

The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa, Beaver Creek in Avon, Colorado

The Lodge at Suncadia in Cle Elum, Washington

Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire

The Peaks Resort & Golden Door Spa in Telluride, Colorado

Woodloch Pines in Hawley, Pennsylvania

Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont

Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa in Thompsonville, Michigan

Resort at Squaw Creek in Lake Tahoe, California

Dakota Mountain Lodge & Golden Door Spa in Park City, Utah

If skiing is not your cup of tea, then consider traveling to Dearborn, Michigan this holiday season. Your LEGO-loving kids will thank you for it.

The city is hosting a LEGO-inspired exhibit dubbed “LEGO Castle Adventure” at the Henry Ford Museum through January 3, 2010.

The kid-friendly exhibit includes a suit of armor, a dragon and models of castles made entirely of colorful LEGO blocks. In addition, the museum is offering activities, such as jousting using foam-rubber lances and LEGO building contests through the holidays.
