Grab a backpack. It can be one that you happen to have around that nobody is currently using or you can pick up a new one. You’ll probably find them reasonably priced this time of year, since we’re past the back to school season and heading into the holidays.
You will want to find a pretty good sized one, not one of those little compact jobs, because you’re going to fill it with things for the entire family to do while on road trips in the car or engaging in other types of travel, and while sitting in waiting rooms at the doctor or dentist. Family fun packs are great for any time you have to wait or need to kill some time.
This idea has been used for children, but there’s no reason it can’t be used for the entire family. We parents get bored too, so why not throw in something to keep everybody entertained?
You can also add a few utilitarian items, such as a pack of tissues or wipes and some hand sanitizer so you’ll have these items handy when you need them. Keep the family pack in your vehicle and it will always be with you when you need it, in case of an unexpected wait or a trip that takes longer than planned.
Here are some items you might want to include in your family fun pack:
- Paperback books or magazines
- Notepad and writing instruments
- Stationery or note cards
- Handheld games
- Deck of cards
- Mints or gum
- Puzzle books
- Coloring books and crayons
- Travel games
