The calendar has been flipped, the snow is melting and drastic changes are slowly underway outside. The temperature is rising, trees are coming to life, ice cream shops are opening their doors and flowers are getting ready to show us their true colors – Spring is almost here!
The past week in the Family Fun section has been as colorful as ever. We have learned how to have fun hiking with kids, how to trap a Leprechaun and how to throw an awesome birthday party in honor of Dr. Seuss. We were provided with a great idea for documenting our family’s adventures and learned about acrostic poems. Finally, we were reminded that hosting a more traditional birthday party in our homes can be as much fun as an elaborate affair, at a fraction of the cost.
Lauri lets us in on one of her family’s secrets, giving us a unique method of family unity and bonding with special gestures and hand-signals.
Dr. Seuss’ birthday is party worthy, writes Jeff, who provided several ideas to celebrate with books, movies, food and crafts.
Take a hike with Lauri as she follows up her popular post about walking in the woods with your kids.

Jeff suggests utilizing MySite on Families.com as a way to journal your parenting experiences and sharing your little one’s childhood exploits with family and friends.
Acrostic Poems are a blast for young readers and toddlers just learning all their letters. Lauri suggests starting with your child’s name and see where the fun ends up.
Jeff reminds us that birthday parties can be simple affairs at home, with homemade food and cake and still be a super fun time for the guests.
St. Patrick’s Day is only two weeks away and Lauri provides us with tips for trapping a Leprechaun.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!
Lauri supports an independent ice cream shop in her town and, in the process, gets us excited about springtime and summer.
