Games are a fantastic way to spend time together as a family. It is also a great way to reinforce lessons learned or even to learn new lessons. Sitting down at dining room table around a fun board game with family are memories your children and you will cherish. It gives you time to interact, laugh together, learn together and create memories together. I enjoy family game nights and so does the rest of my family. We are constantly looking for new games to interest us. Recently we became aware of Road Trip by Daddy-O. A great game if you will be traveling this summer or if you are taking a vacation in your backyard only to dream of going on vacation.
About Road Trip:
Road Trip consists of a camper shaped tin like box to house the game. I love games that come in something other than your usual cardboard rectangular box. My only issue is that the game does not seem to close securely. The game is for ages 8 and up and for 2 to 4 players. The game consists of a retro map game board, four family cars to cruise across it, Rest Stop cards, Challenge cards, die, and timer.
You start by choosing a challenge card. The card may say, “Name three states that begin with the letter?” Now you roll the die with letters to see which letter you will be using. If you get all three you move ahead three. If you stop on a rest stop you chose a Rest Stop card which may allow you to move ahead, move backwards, do something kooky, or use strategically for another time in the game. The first person to get to the destination wins.
The game is fun, challenging, and inspires you to play it over and over again. We laughed a lot and we had to think a lot. Having both as elements of a game is always what we look for to play. I allowed my six year old to play by not holding her to the letter but allowing her to just answer the question. For instance she would just name three things you bring camping instead of naming three things you bring camping that start with the letter “y”. So sit down and have fun with Road Trip! With gas prices it will be the only vacation we get this year.
