Do your New Year’s resolutions fizzle out before February? That’s pretty common. One way to ensure that you keep working on your New Year’s resolution is to make yourself accountable to someone else about it.
Make some family New Year’s resolutions that everyone can work on together. Your kids can learn a lot from the experience!
Learn a New Language
Did your grandparents speak a language other than English? Make a New Year’s resolution to have your whole family start learning that language. Relatives who already speak it can help.
People learn the most when they are having fun. Pick out some children’s books from the library that are in the language you want to learn. Read them together. Find some good videos that are designed to help kids learn a new language. Start listening to music in the language you want to learn.
Be More Active
We all know that exercise is an important part of health. Make a New Year’s resolution to be more active. Walk to the local park instead of driving there. Check everyone’s bicycles to ensure they are in good shape, buy some bike helmets for the kids, and go for a ride.
Stay Hydrated
The best way to stay hydrated is to drink plenty of water. Encourage your family to drink more water by serving it at meals. Get everyone their own reusable water bottle. There are some fun apps that remind people to drink more water.
Eat Healthier
As a family, make the decision to eat healthier in the coming year than you did in the previous one. It is a good idea to start with small changes and build from there. Instead of banning all sweets – cut down on how many you buy. Swap out junk food with healthier choices.
Kids may be more interested in trying healthy foods if they get to help in the kitchen. Teenagers may be able to cut vegetables. Younger kids can dump the vegetables into the pan (while a parent cooks). Cooking together can help families bond.
