Family Tree University Has Courses Starting in October

laptop Family Tree University is part of Family Tree Magazine. It isn’t an accredited college, but it does offer plenty of interesting courses for genealogists to check out. There are several new courses that are going to begin in October of 2012. Here is a little information about some of them.

A course called “Build a Family Website: Make a Site for Your Family in Four Weeks” will begin on October 1, 2012. This course will end on October 28, 2012. The tuition is $99.99. This is a course for genealogists who want to learn how to set up their very own family website. You will need to have a free Blogger or WordPress account (and will be taught how to sign up for one).

Cemetery Research 101: Dig Up Your Family History” will begin on October 1, 2012. It will end on October 28, 2012. The instructor will be Midge Frazel, and the tuition is $99.99. Learn how to explore your ancestors final resting places, to read the tombstones, decipher plot maps, and keep your research organized. To me, this sounds like the perfect genealogy course to take right before Halloween!

Digital Photography Essentials: Techniques to Capture and Preserve Your Family History” will begin on October 1, 2012, and end on October 28, 2012. The tuition for this course is also $99.99. This is the course for genealogists who want to learn the basics of using digital cameras, photography editing software, and scanners in their genealogy work.

Exploring City Directories: How to Trace Your Family in Yesterday’s Yellow Pages” will begin on October 1, 2012, and end on October 28, 2012. This course will be instructed by Diana Smith. The tuition is $99.99. Genealogists will learn how to explore city directories and their applications in order to learn more than just your ancestor’s address.

Finding African-American Ancestors in Newspapers: Research Strategies for Success” is another course that will start on October 1, 2012 and will end on October 28, 2012. The tuition is $99.99. This course will be taught by Tim Pinnick. It is recommended that you get a copy of Tim Pinnick’s book “Finding and Using African American Newspapers” for this course.

First Steps: Discover Your Family Tree: Genealogy For the Absolute Beginner” starts on October 1, 2012, and ends on October 14, 2012. This is a short course, so the tuition is $19.99. The instructor for this course will be Lisa Alzo. This is a course for beginning genealogists who want to learn more about where to begin, where to find information, and what to do with the information they find.
