If you read one of Michele’s recent blogs, you know that Tom Cruise is appearing on the Oprah show again. This is the first time since his infamous couch-jumping incident. When Oprah asked him if he would take it back if he could, Cruise replied, “It was a moment and it was real” and “I just felt that way…That was just how I felt.” I am assuming that is a no. Then, Tom playfully accused Oprah of egging him on.
This time, there was no manic couch jumping as Cruise put on the cruise control. But, there have been more amazing Oprah moments over the years. Let’s take a look at those show moments that almost made Tom look normal:
Oprah vs. Forsyth County
This one goes back a ways, but man, was it powerful. Back on February 9, 1987, Oprah took on the all-white community of Forsyth County, Georgia. A black person hadn’t lived there in 75 years and Oprah confronted the people of the county about their racist views. One resident, Dennis, admitted that he was afraid of blacks coming to their county. He used the excuse of having seen his childhood neighborhood in Atlanta inhabited by blacks and how it had turned into a slum.
Almost 20 years later, Dennis reappeared on the Oprah show to set the record straight. Dennis apologized to Oprah for the use of the n-word, saying it wasn’t directed towards her and that he had only spoke from what he had lived.
Oprah Gives Away Pontiacs
Now we all know Oprah is generous, but back in 2005, she called 11 women on stage to give them a surprising shock – she was giving them all a new car. But, it got even better. Not only were the 11 women on stage getting new cars, but someone in the audience was as well. Oprah gave everyone in the audience a gift box and said that one box had the key to a 12th car.
As it turns out – it was all a trick! All the boxes contained keys, so everyone in the audience got a free car as well. In a maniac Cruise moment, Oprah screamed, “Everybody gets a car! Everybody gets a car!”
