Fancy a Six Pack?

I’ve talked a lot about the Abs Diet over the last few days because I’ve been giving it a try. I picked up the book written by David ZincZenko, the Editor-in-Chief of Men’s Health magazine. What I like about the diet is that he lists right off the bat that he thinks diet is a four-letter word. He also talks about weight loss, fitness, exercise, food habits and more in very sensible and practical terms.

His weight loss and fitness program target a specific area of the body. The abdominal area. However, don’t be mislead. This is a program that promotes overall health, he’s just targeting the area that gets our attention – an area that even among fit people may not be strong, cut or even as toned as it could be.

You see – the point is that your abdominal area is the core of your strength. You use your abdominal muscles for everything. You use them when you lift. You use them when sit up, when you sit down and when you are walking or even just sitting.

While the abs diet is not as revolutionary as one might think, it does offer a new way of thinking. It offers the power foods. It offers the explanations for why they work. It also tells you very blatantly that you need to have at least one cheat day.

ZincZenko’s plan focuses on your belly and how to trim away the excess fat. He also guarantees that you will see results within six weeks. He guarantees a flat stomach and while I’ve only been on this a week, I can’t vouch for the flat stomach part yet. I do know that my belly area is one of the worst areas of fat that I have remaining. As fit as I am and as much exercise as I have performed regularly for the last 18+ months – the belly area has been the most resistant.

One of the things you should ask yourself about any diet is whether you can see yourself doing it for the rest of your life. With the Abs Diet and the Power Food suggestions, I can honestly say that yes I can. Whereas with most diets, they are piled high with restrictions and deprivations – the abs diet tells you what foods to emphasize rather than what foods to kick out.

Now, ZincZenko also says this plan will work even if you don’t exercise. However, exercise helps you to tone your body and make your internal systems more efficient. So whether the plan works without exercise, I plan to do the suggested exercise routines as outlined in the book and on the DVD I purchased entitled The ABS Diet Workout.

Today marks the first official day of our Sizzling Summer Slim Down. Our goal is to spend the next six weeks following the dietary recommendations of the Abs Diet along with adding the workout component. We’re going to turn fat into muscle. We’re going to eat well and weigh less. We’re going to feel and look younger and we’re going to feel really good about ourselves while we do it.

So, who’s with me?
