There are a variety of ways you can spice up your holiday layouts, including using Christmas-themed stickers, stamps, and die-cuts. However, if you really want to add a fancy touch to your designs without breaking the bank, consider using holiday-themed fonts.
My favorite, and perhaps the simplest Christmas-themed fonts, are basic serif or sans serif decorated with holiday-inspired details, such as letters peeking out from underneath Santa hats, snow or letters printed on Christmas tree ornaments. I also love the letters that look like they are made from candy canes or carved from Christmas trees.
I’m not that huge a fan of dingbats, though I know a bunch of scrapbooking moms who love using the decorative shapes for their holiday layouts. Christmas-themed dingbat fonts come in a variety of festive designs from Christmas trees to angels, cookies, candles, snowflakes, and holiday wreaths. You can also find them dressed up as Santa, Rudolph and Christmas gifts.
Once you find a festive font that fits perfectly with your layout, you can share it with fellow scrappers or direct them to websites that offer free holiday fonts, such as Fonts and Things, Acid Fonts, The Holiday Spot and 1001 Free Fonts. You won’t have a problem finding holiday-themed fonts at the aforementioned sites, though if you are planning to do a more generic winter-themed page, you might consider searching for snow or winter fonts.
Since the fonts are free, use them to add pizzazz to your layouts in a number of different ways such as repeating a saying or quote in your favorite festive font. If the fonts are particularly fancy, then consider using a plain background so they stand out even more.
Another way to call attention to your fancy fonts is to create a journaling block combining the words you print out from free sites and letter-shaped stickers or stamps. You could also add bling to your fancy fonts by highlighting portions of them with glitter or flocking.
