Farrah’s Battle With Cancer

I first reported that actress and 70’s icon Farrah Fawcett is battling cancer in my Celebrity News Week in Review for October 2, 2006 blog, but I figured this deserved more than just a note in a review blog.

Farrah, once known for playing a beautiful “angel” on television, will need her own angels to look over her after being diagnosed with intestinal cancer. Fifty nine year old Farrah has had a tumor removed, but will still undergo radiation and chemotherapy treatment.

Farrah is not the only star of 70’s show “Charlie’s Angels” to fight cancer. Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson, her co-stars, have both battled breast cancer. Farrah’s longtime love Ryan O’Neal also had a battle with leukemia in 2001. His cancer battle reportedly bought the couple back together after years apart. I am sure Ryan will now stand beside Farrah as she stood beside him during his illness. In fact, the couple were seen working out together in a Los Angeles gym earlier this month.

Farrah was still married to actor Lee Majors when she hit the big time as Jill Munroe on “Charlie’s Angels.” She left the show after only one year, under contract disputes. After a several bad movies, she made a comeback of sorts with 1984’s “The Burning Bed” in which she played an abused wife. She was last seen on television in several episodes of “Spin City,” “The Guardian” and on her own TV Land reality show called “Chasing Farrah.”

I saw her on the Comedy Channel’s roast of William Shatner not too long ago. She looked better than she has looked in years in my opinion, but she was acting a bit strange. I hope she will recover her health and we will see her on the small tube again soon!

Quick Facts about Farrah:

– Farrah has a college degree in Microbiology

– Her famous poster from the 70s sold over 8,000,000 copies

– She was inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame in 2003
