What mom doesn’t owe Bird Bird, Elmo, Ernie and Mister Rogers a debt of gratitude? If you are not a regular contributor to the Public Broadcasting Service, which broadcasts family-friendly favorites such as Sesame Street, Between the Lions and Reading Rainbow, here’s a chance to give back and smell good while doing so.
As you well know, PBS is a non-profit organization that relies on donations, mostly from viewers. To help out the network that airs so many educational programs, the famous beauty brand, Philosophy (which is extremely popular with celebrities) has decided to support the network’s fundraising efforts by creating “The Tree House Kit”. The kit’s box features pictures of characters from your kids’ favorite PBS Kids shows. Inside there are two mini tubes of scented “An Apple a Day” hand wash and hand cream. The delicious smelling deal can be snatched up at philosophy.com for $25. And the best part… 100% of the net proceeds from its sale will be donated to PBS.
But, Philosophy is not the only beauty product company lending a hand to support great causes. The Body Shop has just launched a special edition of their Hi-Shine Lip Treatment to benefit the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, which aids women and children affected by violent offenders. A company spokesperson says at least 75% of the proceeds from the shimmery translucent pink passion fruit-scented gloss will go directly to the charity. You can get one for yourself for $12 at thebodyshop.com. While you’re there take a look at the other Body Shop products whose proceeds will help put a stop to domestic violence.
Also, don’t forget October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a time when a slew of cosmetic and clothing companies design and sell a number of specially made products and donate a portion of their sales to breast cancer awareness programs.
Check back here next month for a complete list of participating companies and items that you can purchase to help bring awareness to a disease that affects millions of women each year.
