Fashionably Pregnant During Wedding Season

It’s wedding season, and you’re pregnant. If you have a wedding (or two, or three) to attend this summer, don’t despair. Here are a few tips for staying cool and comfortable while looking fabulous.

Dresses look beautiful on pregnant women. Whether you need a sundress for a casual day time event or a maxi dress for an elegant evening affair, you will be able to find something that fits your body and your budget. Depending upon how far along you are, you might want to try shopping in the non – maternity dress department before looking to a maternity clothing store or website.

Many long maxi dresses are made of fabrics that drape nicely over a baby bump if you try on a size or two larger than the size you would usually wear. Shorter dresses can be tricky because of the hemlines, but it is possible to find non – maternity options that fit properly. Look for drapey fabrics and looser cuts instead of form – fitting styles. The trick is to just try them on – don’t be afraid, just do it. If it fits, it fits. If the hemline looks awkward, you can put it back on the rack. During my first pregnancy, I found both short and long non – maternity dresses at TJ Maxx on clearance. They fit nicely, they were comfortable, and I got a ton of compliments on them.

Fortunately, summer dresses often feature breezy fabrics that will help you stay comfortable despite the heat. I practically lived in dresses during the summer months of my first pregnancy, even when I was not at work just because they were so comfortable. Of course, once you have a dress to wear to those weddings you will need shoes to go with it. Flat sandals are probably your best bet in the shoe department. Fortunately, there are many embellished styles available so you can look classy without wearing heels. Wedges are another nice option, but be careful – pregnancy alters your center of gravity and your balance may be a bit off. Personally, I wore flat sandals when I wore long dresses and I wore knee high boots with short dresses. Boots in the summer? Yes. If your feet and ankles are as swollen as mine were, you will understand my overwhelming need to keep them under wraps.
