I never seem to have enough bags. Grocery bags, bags for library books, bags to tote my stuff in, I’m always looking for new bags.
I love when I find one that is not only cute, but quick and easy to make as well. This bag will take about a yard of fabric and an hour of your time. You can get creative and make a liner, I may do that later, or just leave it as is, it’s perfect for just about anything and folds up to fit in a purse or tucked in a car door pocket.
Materials
45” wide cotton fabric, about 32” long- denim would be especially sturdy, you could even use something with an open weave for the beach.
That’s really it, other than thread and a sewing machine.
Fold your fabric in half, right sides together, sew up the open long side to make a tube.
Use a straight edge and draw a line from corner to corner and cut so you have two large triangles.
Hem the long sides of each triangle, no need to hem the bottom, this will be finished when you sew the bag together.
Now take the two triangles, face up and lay them on top of each other, matching the point of one triangle to the center of the other. Pin in place in front and back. I took a picture of paper to show this, the fabric is too large and matches to well to show it.
Now sew the pinned area, on the front and then on the back. Now do the same with the other side. When you are finished you will have a tube with points at the top.
Pin the bottom and sew across. I folded that hem up and sewed again to reinforce the bottom.
Tie the ends and you have a handy, dandy, quick and easy bag!
