What I Thought…
Back in December Toca Tailor Fairy Tales was app of the week. I glossed over it at that time thinking it was just another dress up game. With two young girls I have plenty of dress up apps installed on my iPad. Toca Tailor Fairy Tales allows the child to use her creativity to create the clothing and not just add clothing to a virtual doll. There are plenty of preset colors and patterns to chose but the child can determine if she wants to mix patterns or make a shirt long or short sleeves.
The absolute best part if this app is the use of the camera. You can incorporate the camera in two fun ways.
First you can take a picture or use a picture from your iPad or iPhone’s camera roll to use as a pattern. Make zany shirts using images of your dog or the dinner you took a shot of for Facebook. My daugther used an image if herself to create a dress.
Secondly, you can take a photo of your virtual doll in a real setting. You can use your kitchen, living room, or front yard as a backdrop for your virtual doll. My girls loved this feature as much as creating their own fabrics for clothing from photos.
The app is not educational in a textbook sense. It inspires creativity and imagination. It is basically a fun app to share with your kids. You will enjoy it as much as your kids. I spent quite a bit of time with two giggly girls creating some of the cutest virtual dolls around.
