You probably all know by now that I’m a huge fan and advocate of cloth diapering. It’s what we do 99% of the time with our 11-month-old, and we love it.
Still, there are times when, let’s face it, disposables are easier. When we’re flying to visit family and each checked bag costs $25, it’s not worth it to us to pack a suitcase full of diapers.
This week, we’ve been using disposables every day. We’re moving Monday morning, and it seemed simpler to pack the cloth diapers away with the rest of our belongings and switch to ‘sposies. (If anything happens to my cloth diapers during the move, I will hunt down whomever was responsible for the damages.)
Our first experience with disposables was in the hospital. The hospital our baby was born in used Pampers Swaddlers diapers. We liked them, but quickly switched to cloth when we got home.
We had received a large variety of sizes and brands of disposables diapers as shower gifts, and decided to keep them for convenience. They were all expensive, name-brand disposables, and when we ran out and it came time for us to buy our own, we continued spending the big bucks for the name brands. I was wary of buying store brand diapers, because it wasn’t worth it to me to clean up poop messes every time she went number two. When I thought of generic diapers, I pictured leaky, flimsy, uncomfortable hunks of plastic.
It wasn’t until a friend sang the praises of Target’s up & up Diapers that I considered giving them a try. I couldn’t deny that they were much cheaper than the diapers we’d been using. I figured that even if I didn’t like them, spending around $14 for 90+ diapers wasn’t that big of a risk.
I am happy to say that I was more than satisfied with the diapers, and now exclusively buy that brand. Here are the reasons I like them:
1. They are cheap.
2. They are unscented.
3. Each diaper has a little elastic bunch at the back of the diaper that contains blowouts quite well.
4. They have cute polka dots for decoration.
5. They feel soft and cloth-like, and the Velcro tabs hold extremely well
If you are anything like me and are hesitant to try an off-brand diaper, I highly recommend giving the Target brand, up & up, a try. They are much cheaper than name brands, and, in my opinion, are a superior product.
