February 2008 Sharing Time Theme

This month the Sharing Time theme is “The scriptures teach me about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and how to return to Them.” The scripture is 2 Nephi 4:15: “For my soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them and writeth them for the learning and the profit of my children.” The song for the month is “Tell Me the Stories of Jesus.”

The theme is broken into weekly principles. The first principle is that the Bible and the Book of Mormon testify of Jesus Christ. The next three weeks focus on the Bible, the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants and that the teachings from each teach the children how to live the gospel. This is a great month to focus on favorite stories you may have from the scriptures and discuss them with your family.

This is a great month to focus on family scripture study. You can also help your older children begin to read the scriptures on their own. There is a bookmark activity that your children can do on the Sharing Time page in The Friend. Additionally you may want to have your children work on the coloring page in The Friend.

If you do not already have a collection of flannel board figures for scripture stories you may want to enlist your family and make some this month. This is a great way to teach the stories to your younger children. Additionally you can have your older children teach the stories and principles, which will help them remember them as well.

Scripture study is a blessing and it will help you and your family have needed peace and guidance in your lives. If you are struggling with this have a family home evening about it and solve the problem together. Remember to bring the family scripture study to the right level for your children. If you have smaller children, remember their attention span is smaller. If you have older children, you may want to take the time to discuss the things you are reading and work at a deeper understanding.
