Feeling That Burn

The past few months I have been walking for exercise. I had a few bumps in the road and had to get myself back on the bandwagon but for the most part, I have been doing well. I finally decided this month that I need to add something more to my exercise routine.

It was time to bring in the weights. The little 5 pound weights that would help build muscle and be used in some exercises that will work my arms and legs. I literally felt burning in my muscles when I started this. Actually, I am still feeling the burn and that’s only after a small set of exercises. I felt discouraged at first. I could only do so many sit-ups. I could only stretch my arms so much. My legs could only handle so much stretching. I thought I was pretty pathetic how short a time I could last.

But then I started getting a new perspective. You see, it’s those discouraging thoughts that will try to bring us down and cause us to give up, to think we are wasting our time. I realized I am not wasting my time and I shouldn’t give up. As our bodies begin to get used to the stretching, they will be able to do more. We just have to give it time. I may only be able to do a small number of sit-ups but as I keep doing them everyday, I will eventually be able to increase the amount I am doing.

Lifting weights can do a lot of positive things for our bodies. It can help our hearts, boost our brain and do wonders for our muscles. These are health benefits that go beyond the burn. Are you feeling the burn? Good! That means your body is working hard. If you are ready to feel that burn and know that you are truly working your body, invest in some 3 or 5 pound weights that will boost your fitness routine.
