Felt Activities to Make

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Pumpkins:

Cut orange felt in the shape of a pumpkin. The size is up to you. You can find pumpkin patterns online or simply use a pumpkin coloring sheet as your pattern. Then cut a stem out of brown or green felt. You can create vines and leaves from green felt if you desire. Finally, cut eyes, noses, mouths, eye brows, cheeks, lips, hair, and even ears. Basically, anything you would think a Mr. Potato Head would have you can use for your pumpkin. Cut out several pumpkins so your child can make several pumpkin characters.

Tip: Do not glue any of these crafts/activities so your child can play over and over again. Store in a plastic bag.

Dress up:

Using the same concept as paper dolls, make felt dolls. You can also use bears, bunnies, or kitties, as your dress up model. Make several dresses, pants, hats, purses, belts, and shoes. You can use this activity to teach dressing for weather or studying community workers if you create uniforms. Make boy and girl outfits so all the kids can have fun playing.

Christmas Tree:

Cut out several small Christmas trees or one large tree that you can hang in a corner of a room. Create several ornaments, a star or angel for the top of the tree, and garland. Now your children can decorate a Christmas tree, without fear of injury, any time throughout the season the mood strikes. There is no right or wrong way to create the ornaments. Just have fun!

Story Time:

Create characters from stories such as The Three Bears, Hungry Hungry Caterpillar, or Brown Bear Brown Bear. Your child will love to have the opportunity to play with her favorite characters. Have your child narrate the story using the felt characters. You may also ask your child to add on to the story or change the ending. This project can be glued together if you wish.
