I have a friend who uses leftover holiday-themed scrapbook paper to wrap small Christmas gifts. Another pal uses her extra holiday paper for seasonal crafts and other decorations. I definitely see the frugality in getting the most out of each and every inch of festive scrapbook paper given that single pieces don’t come cheap. What’s more, year after year, I am stunned by the sheer volume of seasonal scrapbook paper on the market. The variety is practically limitless.
Christmas scrapbook paper can be bought individually or in collections featuring:
Santa Claus
Rudolph
Poinsettias
Ornaments
Holly
Sugar cookies
Pine cones
Christmas trees
Gingerbread men
Snowflakes
Candy canes
Mistletoe
Snowmen
Cups of hot cocoa
Stars
Fireplace
Stockings
Gifts
Grinch
Penguins
Toy trains
Nativity scene
Plain paper in festive colors, such as red, green, white and blue are also popular, as is foil paper, which can be embellished with stickers and gems. If you choose to use inexpensive plain paper you could spice up your layouts with Christmas cards that are too lovely to toss out. For the cards that feature just a few memorable images, simply cut out the individual pieces and use them as embellishments.
Another way to jazz up Christmas-themed scrapbook backgrounds is to add festive art projects your kids make in school. You can attach the hand painted or colored masterpieces to plain or patterned paper and make them part of the layout. If you have multiple children, consider making a two or four-page spread. Otherwise, if you only have one child, then add more than one of his seasonal classroom crafts to the page.
Finally, don’t throw out all that pretty Christmas wrapping paper. You can easily recycle the gift wrap and use it as borders, backgrounds or as embellishments for die cuts. You might even consider cutting the wrapping paper in squares and adding a bow to create mini presents to use as decorations for your seasonal layouts.
