Finding a College to Fit Your Needs as a Single parent

Currently I am half way through completing my Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology leading to licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist. Tonight begins my ninth class. The way my school schedule works is that I attend school two nights per week for four weeks, then move on to the next class. It is intense and a lot of work but I get done quicker and am able to attend full-time and also work full-time.

I completed my Bachelor degree just last year at the age of twenty-nine. I moved to California from Arizona at the age of eighteen and did not start college until I was in my twenties. I did not complete my degree until after my daughter was born. As a single parent I completed the majority of my degree. The way I juggled the demands of working full-time in addition to carrying a full-time work schedule was to take online classes. I had completed the majority of my Major classes in the classroom while I was pregnant and after my daughter was born finished up online.

Taking online classes is a great way to accomplish the goal of completing a degree while being there for your children as a single parent. It is a lot of work to take these classes and a great deal of writing. The good thing is that the work can be done after children are in bed and while you can get cozy in your pajamas.

No goal is unreachable. If finishing or starting a degree program is on your list of things to do look into the many course offerings out there and I am sure you will find a program that will work for you. Financial aid is also available for those who are unable to pay for each class as they go. I attend National University that has locations all over the country. University of Phoenix is also another school that offers online degrees. Local community colleges and Universities are offering online education as well. Do your homework and see what is available in your area and I am sure you will find a school and a program that will fit your needs.
