Okay, so now you know all about using a wringer washer, including the great deal of savings you will get from it. Wringer washers are very popular with homesteaders, as well as with my Amish neighbors.
Finding a wringer washer isn’t as easy as heading over to your local department or home improvement store. You can still find wringer washers, but they are starting to become more scarce. This is because of two reasons. First of all, the last new wringer washer was manufactured sometime in 1990, which is 18 years ago. That still mens that there are plenty of “modern” wringer washers as well as ones from the wringer washer heyday, the late 1940s, the 1950s and later. The Speed Queen is a popular wringer washer that is used by many people today.
There are companies that specialize in renovating and selling wringer washers. The companies tend to exist wherever there is a demand. Here in Pennsylvania, there are quite a few of these companies to choose from, because of the Amish. Rural areas that encourage a homesteading lifestyle are also a good choice. You can also contact your local privately owned appliance store and ask them to do the research, although you may pay a premium for it.
Another place to find wringer washers is through online auctions and ads, such as ebay and craigslist. Here you may find wringer washers that haven’t been used in years. Ask for a demo to make sure it works. Chances are, though, that even if the machine isn’t currently working, you can have them repaired if needed at a low cost. Take along a handy person when you shop.
Estate sales and garage sales are another source for wringer washers. While estate sales can be hit or miss, you can usually call ahead at larger ones to see if they have what you want.
