Finding Plus Size Maternity Clothes

I’ve been browsing in our Pregnancy Forum this past week and reading the posts there. I’ve decided to dedicate the remainder of this week to questions that I have read there. For the first blog, I will address finding plus size maternity clothing.

Finding maternity clothing is a challenge, regardless of the size. Stores specializing in maternity clothes tend to be expensive. For many pregnant women, it’s difficult to justify spending thousands of dollars on a wardrobe that will only be worn a matter of months. Lower priced clothing often either doesn’t come in plus sizes or the fit isn’t quite right.

Other members had some good suggestions for finding plus size maternity clothing at a reasonable price. One poster suggested shopping on ebay to find good deals. This is a good idea. When I was pregnant with our last baby, I wanted some nursing pajamas for after the baby was born. I was able to find three pairs at a great price.

If you are shopping on ebay or other auction sites, there are some things to consider. It’s important to read the product description carefully to be sure you know what you are getting. There is a mix on ebay of new and used clothing. This is important if you don’t want used clothes. It’s also important when you are deciding on a maximum bid amount for the item. You don’t want to bid a price for a new outfit if it isn’t new.

More stores are responding to the needs of pregnant women by offering more options in plus sizes. You can find clothes on the internet a lot faster and with less travel than you would by driving around town to maternity and department stores. Be careful when shopping online. Some stores can be pricey. This is great for a special occasion, but you probably won’t want to do this for your entire wardrobe.

Some plus size mommies to be buy one or two nice outfits and wear regular clothes in larger sizes for around the house. This is a good way to save money, especially if you don’t work outside the home and don’t need a lot of clothing. A product called the Bella Band expands the waist size of pants, allowing them to be worn later in pregnancy.

For your nice outfits or professional clothes for work, you may need to spend some cash. There are specialty clothing stores online that offer designer style maternity clothing in plus sizes. Some sites offer discounts and deals with free shipping to save money. Don’t buy from the first site you visit. Shop around for the best deals to get the most for your money.

If you don’t mind gently used clothing, you have a few options for finding great prices. Second hand stores or sites like ebay can be a great way to find outfits that were barely worn at a fraction of the cost of new clothes. Freecycle is another option for free clothing. Freecycle is a website that was born out of the environmental movement.

On the site, you can join your local group. From here you can post messages about things you need and things you want to give away. The idea is to keep down the pollution that results from manufacturing new items as well as keeping good things out of our landfills. Maternity and infant clothing is a common theme on my freecycle group.
