Have you ever been rushing out the door starting a busy day and you feel prompted to call someone and see how she is? What do you do? Do you take the time to call quickly or do you tell yourself you’ll call later in the day, and it is only as you go to bed that you realize how you forgot to call her at all. It can be difficult to decide when and how to make time to follow a prompting.
If you are praying to receive promptings on how to help others, it is important to respond to the promptings. Often it is easiest to respond right away to the prompting. A simple phone call only takes a few minutes. It will also give you more time to respond to anything that you learn about during the day.
If you truly do not have time at that moment, write down your prompting in a place that you will see it. Then respond to it as quickly as possible. This way you will not forget the prompting and still be able to act on it.
Sometimes you may need to change your plans to respond to a prompting. If you feel strongly about this, but you are not sure on you will accomplish the task set before you, then you should pray about it. Remember that we are not asked to do more than we can accomplish, and that the Lord will help us to finish the tasks that he has set before us.
You may not realize how much a simple card, or a quick phone call will mean to someone. You may decide to stop by and pick up someone’s kids on a prompting and then include them in the rest of your daily activities. It is important to realize that most days you can fit the promptings into your daily activities. As you practice following these promptings it will be easier to find ways to fit them in
