When it comes to seasonal scrapbooking, I am always a day late and a dollar short. It took me years to figure out that I am not a daily scrapper. No matter how hard I try to channel Martha Stewart or Rosie O’Donnell, I am simply unable to spend 20 minutes a day keeping on top of layouts.
Now, I own my procrastinating tendencies. However, taking responsibly for my shortcomings doesn’t change my situation. I’m still as late as ever when it comes to finishing memory albums. For instance, as we sit just a week shy from the official start to autumn, I am just now filing photos of my daughter’s summer swimming adventures. Hopefully, I will be able to complete the page designs before the first snowflake falls.
Regardless of what the calendar says I am determined to get these swim-themed layouts done before I start on fall-related scrapbooks. My challenge is my perfectionism. At times I can be too detail-oriented. This tendency is not always a good thing when you are trying to finish a memory book under a deadline.
For example, I have big plans for a swim-themed double page layout. Last month, I got up extra early so that my daughter and I could be the first ones at our neighborhood pool. My goal: take a shot of the pool in all of its glassy splendor. I got an amazing picture of the water’s smooth surface and I am planning to enlarge it to use as background paper.
Another technique I am using for another page is to place blue and white rick-rack to resemble pool waves. I also have some white twine that I will be using to create lane marks on the layout. If you would like to duplicate this idea with the twine, make sure you purchase the acid-free variety. Most twine is acid-free, but it’s always a good idea to check it with a pH acid testing pen. After all, you don’t want to go through the trouble of designing a stunning layout, and then find out that your materials are not scrapbook safe.
