Newly married couples have the added joy of another first when they spend their first Christmas together. There’s no better time to begin wonderful holiday traditions that you can carry with you throughout your life together.
Here’s an idea, I you might like:
Okay, I can’t take credit for this one, because it was my mom who came up with it. I loved the idea when I was newly married, and I still do, so I wanted to share it with you. Well, actually, I’ll share it and add a little twist.
My mom started giving my husband and I engraved metallic ornaments each year beginning with our first Christmas together (she gives each of the kids one too). Each one has both of our names and the year engraved on it. One was a large heart with holly, one was two lovebirds, and she usually tries to find some sort of romantic theme that also incorporates Christmas.
These special ornaments are wonderful keepsakes and putting them up is our favorite part of decorating each year. As we unwrap each one to hang it, we remember something about that particular Christmas together. It’s really cool.
I thought some of you might like to start a similar tradition with your new spouses. The two of you can pick out an ornament together each year and have them engraved with your names and the year. There are of course different styles and price ranges, but you can create and continue this tradition without spending a lot of money. In fact, you can find metal ornaments for just a few dollars and engraving is usually free at retailers like Wal-Mart.
This is a very special way to commemorate each Christmas together and it also makes a great gift idea for other couples you know.
