First Impressions Count at Yard Sales 2

Isn’t there a famous saying that says, “You only get one chance to make a first impression?” Well, this can also be true when it comes to yard sales. But why on earth would it be so important to make a good first impression when you are shopping and are willing to buy someone’s stuff? Well, let me tell you. When you are shopping at yard sales, it is good to be able to negotiate. And making a good first impression can help greatly with this.

If you missed my earlier post on this topic, you can read about it here: First Impressions Count at Yard Sales.

Now here are some other ways to make a good first impression.

Carry plenty of singles

When you are negotiating to pay $1 instead of $3, the last thing you want to do is to whip out a twenty. It will make the seller feel as though they have been duped, which is not nice. Plus, you may want to bargain about something else. Keep plenty of dollar bills on hand, and place them in different pockets. This way you can take out exactly what you need. Keep a few larger bills locked in the car for big purchases, and only take them out as needed.

Be friendly

I tend to be an outgoing person who likes people, so being friendly can be almost second nature to me, unless I am in a bad mood. But not matter whether someone is in a bad mood (finding a great deal can change that) or just shy, being friendly can really go a long way in negotiating. Say hello when you first enter a sale, and don’t be afraid to make small talk. You’ll see like the nice person that you are, and sellers will be happy to give you a good deal.
