Our Ensign this month is a beautiful issue with a vellum cover, completely devoted to testifying and worshipping our Savior. The First Presidency Message is from President Gordon B. Hinckley and is entitled, “We Testify of Jesus Christ.” What a fitting theme for this Easter month.
Jesus Christ was born in Judea two thousand years ago to Mary and her husband, Joseph, while yet the Son of God, and was presented at the temple to Simeon and Anna. He conversed with the priests at the temple, was tempted by Satan, and was prepared in every way for His ministry here on the earth, to fulfill His unique calling. He is indeed the Great Jehovah, the One of whom the prophets testified would come. He was sent to the earth to redeem us, to cleanse us from our sins, and to make it possible for us to return to live with our Father in Heaven.
He is truly the Son of God. While walking amongst us, He healed the sick, He cast out devils, He taught and nurtured. And yet with all His magnificent power, He allowed Himself to be taken, scourged, subjected to a mock trial, and hung upon a tree with nails driven through His flesh. All this He did because of His great love for us.
Yet, He did not remain dead. He was resurrected three days later, breaking the bonds of death, making it possible for us to also be resurrected when our time comes. He lives. He is our living God. He loves us and watches over us today just as He did when He was on the earth.
Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our church, the foundation upon which we build, the rock we rely on. We worship Him as our Lord and Savior. It is only through Him that we are able to repent from our sins, and only He can lead the way back home. We praise and honor His righteous name.
As we face the future, we will feel uncertainty, and yet we have no need to fear. Our Savior is there for us and we can count on Him, rely on His promises. Even as conditions in the world grow worse and we wonder who to trust, we can always trust Him, Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God.
