First Things First

Today I learned a very important lesson- the order in which you do chores is very important. For instance, never clean the house before you bathe the dog.

I have a little shih tzu, she is just as cute as she can be but she is also a mess. Because she has hair instead of fur it grows, and grows and grows, requiring frequent trips to the groomers.

I decided to help out my budget and groom the dog myself. I spent Sunday cleaning the house, I even swept out the garage, I was pretty proud of the way the house looked.

Then I got out the trimmers and started cutting Clementine’s hair. That little dog has a lot of hair! Let’s just say that everything on the main floor of my house is covered with dog hair, including me. Then after her bath everything was covered with water and dog hair.

What have I done? Now I get to re clean the kitchen, living room and family room. To say I was unprepared for this chore is an understatement.

I think many times we do this to ourselves, decide to undertake a task without thinking about the consequences. I should have shaved Clementine outside or at least in the basement bathroom where I could have contained the mess.

It’s important to think through any tasks you want to complete that you don’t’ do on a regular basis. Go through the process, step by step, in your head before you start.

What are you going to need? Gather everything together. If you are shaving a dog, where you do it is as important as doing it well.

Next time I will be better prepared and maybe I won’t be so traumatized by grooming one little dog. At least my house will be really, really clean now.
