Fitness Bootcamp: A Hot New Trend

Pilates has been one of the more popular fitness trends for a while now. However it appears that according to recent surveys and reports, the newest fitness trend that will make some big waves is Bootcamp.

Fitness bootcamp is military-style fitness. What I think is interesting about this is that it’s probably just what many of us need, something in your face. If sticking to a fitness routine is difficult, this may be the answer.

I have limited experience with anything military. My father was in the Air Force but I don’t know much about his time there. My 16-year-old son is part of an auxiliary branch of the Air Force, Civil Air Patrol. The past two summers he participated in a week long military camp. It was a mini version of what military bootcamp is all about. It completely changed him.

When he described to us the physical aspect of his experience, I couldn’t imagine being able to do it. I couldn’t imagine someone screaming in my face or exerting myself beyond what I think my limits are…but perhaps that is exactly what I need.

Some are saying that Pilates is just a fad that is quickly dying out. The training in balance and use of stability balls is dissipating. On the horizon is the in-your-face-get-it-done routine. Well, that might not be true in every fitness bootcamp. There are a variety of fitness bootcamps out there so you can find one that fits your style.

I think more than anything, fitness bootcamp is about not giving up. That is definitely one of the biggest lessons my son learned when he went through his week-long military experience. He learned to never give up and that you can do anything. He discovered an inner strength that he never knew existed.

So if you are looking for something new, something that will really motivate and challenge you…then fitness bootcamp just might be it. As we approach 2011 you will likely be hearing more and more about this up and coming trend. You will also be likely to find a class near you.

If anyone has experience with fitness bootcamp, I would love to hear from you.
