Fitness Journal – Car Exercises

One of the drawbacks to living in Texas is everything seems so far away. There is not jaunting up to the corner store because the corner store is over a mile and a half from the house. There’s definitely no running down the street for something, because the next closest shop is about two and a half miles. So that means lots and lots and lots of driving around in the car.

The great thing about driving around in the car is that there are gl you can do that help firm your abdomen and buttocks. First and foremost, check your seat’s position to make sure you have proper back support. When you are sitting in your car, you shouldn’t be stretching your arms fully out in front of you to drive. You should be able to put your hands on the steering wheel at the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions.

When your arms are placed correctly and your hands are in these positions, you are going to have better control over the vehicle and reducing undue stress on your back. Now that you are comfortable, begin flexing your buttocks as you drive.

Clench and hold for a four count, then release for another four count. Repeat this ten to twenty times and you will be exercising your glutes as you drive. You can also alternate the glute tightening with abdominal tightening. Be sure that your posture keeps your shoulders back as you do this, because while consciously tightening your abs is not the same as doing a sit up, it does have some effect on the muscles there as you tighten and release.

Granted, this is not a workout, per se in the traditional sense – but why not take advantage of all that time in the car to tighten up troublesome areas? What else have you got to do?
