Fitness Journal – Lifestyle Behaviors – Part 6

We are in the final blog for my series on creating a fitness journal. If you include every component—exercises, what you eat, the amount of sleep you get and your mood—you will learn more about yourself.

But to top it off, we are going to look at how lifestyle behaviors play a role. Lifestyle behaviors are something I read and write about frequently. In my other work as a web content writer, I write health blogs for a Social Security disability law firm. So I have quite a bit of experience in the way health is impacted by this.

We have to remember that your level of fitness goes beyond exercise. It encompasses everything about you. It’s not just about size or how much you can bench press. It is about overall total health.

So while you may be a regular exerciser, you could still be damaging your health with other poor lifestyle behaviors. This includes things such as smoking, the amount of time you spend at work, caffeine consumption, and alcohol/drug use.

Some of your lifestyle behaviors cause stress and that can lead to overeating. So if you exercise but you eat the wrong stuff, your fitness level isn’t what it could be. Some of the choices you make could be interfering with your body’s metabolism, making it difficult to lose weight.

So in this section of your fitness journal, you are going to make note of any unhealthy lifestyle behaviors that you may have. This could also include poor diet and a lack of exercise.

After you have evaluated yourself, take time to plan how you can change those lifestyle behaviors. The key thing about lifestyle behaviors is that these are choices you have made. You may not necessarily be able to prevent a disease from striking your body, but you can certainly stop yourself from smoking.

Some lifestyle behaviors are more difficult to change than others. I fully acknowledge that. But you have to make the choice to take full control of your fitness and do everything you can to make it optimum.

Do you have any other suggestions on what could be included in a fitness journal?
