It’s a holiday today and we’re heading out as a group to spend the afternoon together. First and foremost, hit the treadmill for a 15 minute mile. That’s right, we’re doing a 15 minute mile this morning. Primarily, I’m concerned with the heavy duty workout I did last night trying to curb my own frustration.
Because I didn’t want to over train, I set the timer on the stopwatch for 15 minutes and poured it on. I kept the pace comfortable and monitored my heart rate. I wanted to do my best without overdoing it. I also wanted to see how far I could go in the fifteen minutes without feeling like I’m killing myself.
My heart rate stayed fairly steady at 130, so I wasn’t hyper extending myself. When the timer went off I looked down and saw that I’d gone .95 of a mile. Really? That’s almost a 15 minute mile and while I could feel soreness in my legs – I attributed most of that to overdoing it the night before.
I shut off the treadmill and went through my deep stretch routine. Trying to loosen up and relax the muscles so they wouldn’t cramp. A few minutes later, I headed for the hot shower to wash up. When it was time to go out, I felt pretty charged about how well we did.
For the rest of the day, we went out to the movies and caught a showing of Transformers and then walked around the outdoor mall for a couple of hours. The strolling was light, easy going and at a slow pace – the kind you have to walk when it’s wall to wall people.
By the time we arrived home at 11 – there was no sense in doing any more of a workout. Though I am feeling pretty good about how far I got with my 15 minute mile today. We’ll do it again tomorrow to make sure it’s not a fluke. Weight training is also on the calendar tomorrow.
Feeling great about that part of the workout.
