Fitness Magazines for Mom

Another great Mother’s Day present idea might be some magazine subscriptions. Subscriptions deliver the magazine to the door at a significantly reduced cost. There are only a few magazines that we subscribe to around here, but my husband likes to renew them annually around my birthday or Mother’s Day as a way of saying he loves me.

Among some of my favorite fitness magazines is:

Prevention Although this magazine is aimed at people from the ages of 40 to 65, I enjoy reading the material they provide. They focus on a natural approach to healthy and there are a lot of articles on nutrition, vitamins and herbs. It’s also small enough to fit into my purse and whenever the new issue comes in, I tuck it in there for reading material when I am waiting for my daughter to finish dance class or other lessons.

I started subscribing to Men’s Health after I found myself picking up copies regularly at the grocery store. The magazine offers a lot of fitness tips, men’s interest articles (including communication and interaction pieces) as well as exercise routines that target specific areas of the body. My husband likes reading it and while it doesn’t quite skew towards my demographic – there is a lot of good information in the magazine.

Walk About Magazine is another that I read regularly, though I haven’t gotten a subscription to it yet. Walk About Magazine is a packed with information on fitness, dieting information and articles on great locations where you can take your walking on the road. For walking enthusiasts, it’s a good companion to your fitness program and if for no other reason – it’s fun to read.

Fitness may seem like an obvious choice for a magazine, but it’s one of the best out there for women in my opinion. The articles keep a finger on a variety of topics that target women – everything from diet advice to sports to beauty and fashion. It doesn’t traffic in stereotypes, either. It addresses fitness as a whole body and mind lifestyle and not just as a fast fad.

While you might not think a magazine is a great gift, a subscription offers a lot more than just a magazine. It offers a renewing gift resource that delivers to the mailbox every month. We’re always talking about how interested we are in fitness – these magazines are all designed to inspire, motivate and provide educational information and entertainment.

Not bad for a few cents on the dollar, eh?
