Five for Fitness: Tuesday, September 5th

Today is Tuesday, September the 5th and here in Texas it has finally cooled off. At least in my part of Texas and since we’ve been under brutal heat and severe water restrictions, the cooling off is literally a breath of fresh air. In just a couple of weeks, we’ll celebrate the Autumn Equinox – the time when the hours of night and the hours of day are equal and then the nights will gradually grow longer, the days even colder and it will be Winter.

Do I sound as though I am romanticizing it? Probably. But I do enjoy the refreshing coolness of Autumn. I took the last three days off from the fitness blog. I enjoyed the weekend with my family, working on projects with my daughter and yesterday, she and I sat out under an umbrella and watched it ran. I feel more relaxed and focused today because of it.

So here are my five best reasons for fitness in the fall or at least in September.; please don’t hesitate to share yours.

  • It’s cooler outside, I can get warmed up in the cooler air and enjoy a brisk walk without overheating or dehydrating in the suffocating heat and humidity
  • The air smells fresher, cleaner somehow as the coolness washes away the last few stuffy weeks, the rain feels better, the flowers smell sweeter and the grass seems greener
  • The house can be opened up and the cross breezes can chase out the scents of cooking, animals and living in close quarters with only the air conditioning to recycle the air
  • Outdoor exercise isn’t limited to the early morning or late evening, instead you can enjoy the mid-day for exercise as well
  • There is nothing like riding your horse in the Autumn, not even spring compares; granted Texas doesn’t turn quite the vibrant landscape of colors that the northeast does – but there is a raw appeal to the cool air and tumbling of leaves from the trees – it’s not the brownness of burnt earth, but rather the required renewal of nature

Do you enjoy exercising in the Autumn?
