Easter is rapidly approaching, and that means bunnies and eggs, candy and baskets. After checking out the recent article that Mary Ann wrote about great ideas for Easter baskets, I was completely inspired to come up with some new ideas on my own. Being a former preschool teacher who had to use frugal and innovative ideas for my classroom, I was able to alter them and be creative with my ideas to come up with some perfect solutions for our family.
I often give gift baskets filled with goodies as gifts for my friends and family on holidays and birthdays. I try to use innovative items to put the items in. For instance, a good basket for a beach themed gift basket would be a tote bag. Not every basket has to be an actual basket. Here are five more great ideas for Easter baskets (or even gift baskets).
Milk Jugs or Cartons
Cut down a plastic milk jug and fill with the plastic grass. You have a built in handle if you cut the top off. You could also cut a small hole into the milk jug, fill it up with all sorts of goodies, cover the hole with tape and a cute picture and stump your kids. How did all that stuff get in there? For a smaller basket idea you can use a carton. Cut off the top, punch holes and add string or a pipe cleaner. Perfect for a toddler or to hold a small amount of candy.
Large Brown Paper Bags
Take a large brown paper grocery sack and roll the sides down the outside of the bag. You can either create holes and use a ribbon to create a handle, or just leave as is. A paper grocery sack holds a LOT of stuff.
Halloween Pumpkins
I used this idea when my children were small. We cut out bunny ears and taped them onto the pumpkin. We taped a pom pom tail to the back and cut out a circle nose out of paper. Yes, we had an orange bunny, but they thought it was cute.
Shoe Boxes or other boxes
Shoe boxes are another simple way to create a basket. You can decorate, punch holes and add a handle. Or just leave the box as is. It holds a pretty large amount of candy, and you have plenty of sizes to choose from.
Dollar Store Finds
Last year we picked our baskets out at the dollar store. Only we didn’t get the traditional easter basket. My children decided to use storage containers as their easter baskets and after easter they stored trinkets, jewelery and other items in them. My son hosts his rock collection in one.
Regardless of what you use, have a wonderful Easter with your family.
