There are so many things I love about homeschooling. I know it will be the most important thing I do with my life. I admit that I do not always live intentionally or gratefully, so reminding myself of the benefits of homeschooling gets me past the haze.
1. Privilege of discipling my children. The most important thing a Christian mother can do is raise children who love and honor the Lord. I want my children to understand who they are in Christ and to live the will of God in their lives.
2. Ability to tailor make my child’s education. I give my children an education that suits their individual learning style and level of learning. My child can be a few grades ahead in one subject, on grade level in another, or given extra practice in yet another. We can employ Charlotte Mason techniques, enjoy unit studies, or grab a textbook. I can see what sparks my child and run with it.
3. Experience the joy of learning together. The most precious times are built through homeschooling. Learning is not the “job” of the child but the experience of the whole family. My children pursue their own interests yet have time to learn together.
4. Ability to provide experience, provoke imagination and teach critical thinking. I am grateful to provide my children experiences in the things they are interested in. Instead of living behind a desk they can run in the park. Instead of looking at art in a book they can visit museums. Instead of having information and ideas placed in their minds they learn critically think through things.
5. Freedom. One of the best things is pure freedom. Freedom to teach what and how I feel is best. Freedom to take vacations or start school as I see fit. Freedom to naturally learn. Freedom to teach by conviction and to pray in school.
