It seems that Spring seems to be that magic time, when gas prices rise to excruciatingly painful prices. In some areas, I am hearing that prices have already risen above $3.00/gallon, however around here, they are at a slightly more moderate $2.78/gallon. Yes, I am being sarcastic.

With gas prices rising so dramatically again, it can really but a cramp in your budget, or your frugal lifestyle. There are a few ways you can help to conserve gas, and some tips and tricks to making the most of your dollar. Read below, for five really useful tips, that will save you money.

#1 – Purchase gasoline with CASH! Do not use credit cards, because interest can raise your gas price up to $4.00/gallon. In addition, many gas stations, will charge less, if you pay with cash. Try and utilize these places, to save a bundle. Our Dirt Cheap charges $0.4 less per gallon, if paid with cash. Fill up with twenty gallons, and you just saved $.80, which can add up depending on how many cars, and how many times per week, you have to gas up.

#2 – Use gaspricewatch.com and gasbuddy.com to find the lowest prices in your area. Shopping around for a bargain, always makes sense, but not when you are wasting gas, trying to find the cheapest location. The websites simply make it easier.

#3 – If you are a two or more car household, consider carpooling or running errands with each other. You might even wish to ask a neighbor or friend if they’d like to run their errands with you. Share the cost of gas. It should help you both out.

#4 – Fill the tank when it’s not empty. If you are running errands, or just out and about, consider topping the tank, if you find a gas station with lower prices.

#5 – If you’re ready for a new car, now might be the time. Avoid SUV, and other large vehicles, which tend to be gas guzzlers.
