As the cool weather sets in, that means that cold and flu season are beginning to set in as well. Many people believe this happens because people are inside more, and the germs are more easily spread from person to person. You should be prepared to handle the onset of a cold or the flu in your family actually gets it. Here are five things you can do.
1) You should go ahead and purchase tissues for your family to use. You may want to buy a box to place in your car. You may also want to put a small trash bag in your car, to collect used tissues. You also might want to buy pocket packs to send to school with your children when they have a cold. While you are at it, you may want to stock up on hand sanitizer to put in your car, and your children’s backpacks.
2) Stock your home with cold medicine and comfort foods. This will save you from rushing out in the middle of the night when the symptoms suddenly strike. Every family has their own comfort foods, but juice high in vitamin C is always good to have on hand.
3) Prevention is part of the key. If you are in a high-risk category, consider getting a flu shot this year. This may save you from coming down with the flu. It is also important to practice good hand washing and to teach your children to as well.
4) One part of having a cold or the flu is just being miserable. You can prepare an activity bag for your children with a new DVD, games, and books in it to help keep their minds off of their symptoms. This just might save your sanity as well.
5) You should continue to let your children play outside as much as you can. The fresh air and activity help them to stay healthy which helps to prevent disease. It is important to continue to exercise and eat healthy during the winter months for adults as well.
