Fixing Your Cell Phone Photos

For smart phones like the iPhone and Android phones, you can usually do all your editing right on the phone using an app that you download from the App Store or the Android Market. If you don’t have one of these popular phones, though, and you want to make your phone pictures look a little better, you can always load them onto your computer and use regular photo editing software.

You don’t need expensive software to give your cell phone pictures a boost. Today I tried out Picnik.com, and I have to say, you can do a whole lot with the free version, and the paid version is still pretty cheap. With Picnik, you edit your pictures online and you don’t even need an account. If you create an account, you can link it to your Facebook and pull pictures right from there. This is pretty handy considering how easy it is to post your mobile pictures on your profile. All you would have to do is upload your mobile pictures to Facebook, then pull them into Picnik and edit them.

With Picnik, you can add special affects, change the color, add text, borders and more. The paid version allows you to use features that are similar to what you would find in Photoshop. It costs a little more than $2 a month, which I think is a pretty good deal. If you are just getting into photography, a premium membership with Picnik might be the way to go!

When you are editing your cell phone pictures, you’ll typically want to boost your exposure, your color and your sharpness. Those tend to be lacking in most cell phone photos. For some reason my cell phone pictures always come out a little fuzzy, dark and blah looking. Sometimes the easiest way to deal with these problems is to brighten the photo, boost the contrast and then convert it to black and white. Black and white covers a multitude of problems, as does any other monochrome conversion, such as sepia.
