C’mon Floyd not the discrimination card…
Let me start by saying I can’t dance—-period. However, I’ve enjoyed watching world welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather float like a butterfly on this season’s “Dancing with the Stars.” His enthusiasm is apparent and he moves very well. Despite this, a few days ago Mayweather and his professional dancing partner Karina Smirnoff were red-lighted and faced elimination.
They were saved when dancing rival Wayne Newton got the boot, but instead staying quiet and just being happy with the opportunity to move on in the competition Mayweather started flapping his lips. The pro boxer told various entertainment reporters that he should have never been in the bottom two and accused the “Dancing with the Stars” judges of discrimination. According to Mayweather, the judges should be scoring him on his dancing skills, not on his boxing skills.
Huh?
“I can work hard. I can nail the routine with the perfect ten but I already understand I’m going to continue to get low scores because they already got their mind made up—they judge me from my boxing,” an emotional Mayweather told reporters Tuesday night after the results show aired. “They should be judging me for how I dance.”
Wait a second. The show is called “DANCING with the Stars” not “BOXING with the Stars.” What the heck is Mayweather talking about? I don’t peg any of the judges as boxing fans so what is Mayweather referring to? His low scores?
It’s true the boxer did earn an 18 out of 30 the first week, and 21 out of 30 on the following two shows, but the judges have never been highly critical of him. I’ve watched every single show and have heard mainly positive comments from the judges. From what I recall they have offered a ton of constructive criticism, which is a lot more than what last season’s dancers got from the trio of judges.
But, Mayweather didn’t stop there. When asked by reporters if he plans to employ a new strategy in time for next week’s competition, Mayweather mumbled: “I tried to have a strategy before and the strategy didn’t work out. They said I dance too hard. They said I danced great the first time. If you go back and look at all the scores for every week…all of them judge me the same each week, so that’s impossible.”
Okay…
Thank goodness for Smirnoff. Mario Lopez’s better half interjected some reason into the interview saying, that at the end of the day, they are dancing for fun and for the fans at home and “hopefully we’ll get the judges on our side sooner rather than later.” To which Mayweather responded, “they will never be on our side.“
What do you make of Mayweather’s pouty persona? Like I said earlier, I think he’s a great dancer (then again I can’t dance), but let’s face it he’s no Helio Castroneves. And, sorry to hit below the belt Floyd, but is it possible that your low scores have more to do with you than the judges?
