Did you happen to see Thursday night’s season finale of “The Celebrity Apprentice?” If you did then you know that when it came time to get his famous friends from Nashville to New York for a charity auction country music star Trace Adkins chartered two private jets for them to travel in.
Cha-ching!
I’m not sure how much Adkins ultimately raised for his charity, but you have to figure that the money he dropped on the private jets likely totaled in the ballpark of the funds he raised.
Despite the astronomical price tag (think $50,000 per person in some cases) companies that offer private jet services say the demand is incredibly strong.
Just a few days ago Abercrombie & Kent (a company that leads the way in private jet travel) announced that it plans to add a new 757 to its fleet. According to company officials, the plane is configured to hold only 52 passengers and will cost from $85,000 to $100,000 a person per trip.
Hmmm… Buy a new house or take a flight on a private jet…
So what does one get for $85,000 to $100,000?
The folks at Abercrombie & Kent say passengers will be treated to wide, extended-recline cradle seat, the kind found in first-class cabins on traditional carriers. In addition, each traveler will sit a generous 60 inches from fellow passengers.
The company’s new jet also has a rear lounge that consists of four seating areas, each with oversized leather seats and massive tables where passengers can imbibe on a tropical drink or enjoy a five-course meal while zipping from New York to India.
Flights include more than a dozen crew and staffers, including tour guides, a baggage handler and five flight attendants — which is a ratio of more than one staffer to every eight guests, according to the company’s calculations.
Besides the money you are investing, private jet travel will cost you a considerable amount of vacation time as well. A typical trip by private jet lasts about three to four weeks and includes stops in a half-dozen or more of the world’s most famous destinations, from Africa’s Serengeti to Peru’s Machu Picchu.
Abercrombie & Kent offers three-week trips starting at $84,895 per person. Any takers?
