This blog is part of the series that focuses on the candidates who are running for President of the United States in 2016. This blog focuses on Lindsey Graham.
Lindsey Graham served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1992 to 1994. He represented South Carolina’s 3rd District in the United States House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003. In 2002, he was elected to represent the state of South Carolina in the United States Senate. Lindsey Graham won his re-election in 2014.
Health Care
According to his official website, Lindsey Graham wants to repeal and replace Obamacare (also known as the Affordable Care Act or ACA). Lindsey Graham wants to replace it with “cost-effective, market-driven reforms that improve access to quality care for all Americans without infringing on individual choice”.
According to his official website, Lindsey Graham sees Medicare and Medicaid as an “entitlement”. He wants to make “meaningful structural changes” to them. His website does not provide further details about what changes he wants to make.
Women’s Health Care
According to his official website, Lindsey Graham wants to enact the “Graham 20-Week Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act”. He brought that bill to the Senate in September of 2015, and it failed to pass.
Lindsey Graham also wants to “ensure that no money from the US Treasury ever goes toward programs that support or promote abortions”. The Hyde Amendment, which has existed for a long time, already prevents federal money from being used to pay for abortions.
Immigration
According to his official website, Lindsey Graham wants to “hire, train, and deploy new Border Patrol agents and complete the border fence”. He wants to require all employers to use the E-Verify system to confirm the status of any new hires.
Lindsey Graham wants “illegal immigrants” to be required to register with the government. He also wants to rescind President Obama’s executive orders regarding immigration (which Lindsey Graham feels are unconstitutional).
Education
According to his official website, Lindsey Graham wants to “uphold Conservative values in education”. He is against Common Core and wants to put education back into the hands of parents, local school districts, and the states.
Lindsey Graham also wants to “protect homeschooling”. He doesn’t want homeschool graduates to have to “score higher on the Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) in order to be eligible for military service.”
Jobs
The only thing his official website says about jobs is in the section under immigration. Lindsey Graham wants all employers to be required to confirm the legal status of any new hires through a mandatory E-Verify system. He also wants to hire more Border Patrol agents.
