Martin O’Malley was a state field director for Congresswoman Barbara Mikulski’s successful U.S. Senate campaign in 1986. Martin O’Malley was the mayor of Baltimore from 1999 to 2007. He served two terms as Governor of Maryland.
Health Care
According to his official website, Martin O’Malley championed the Working Families & Small Business Health Coverage Act. It would provide over 100,000 Marylanders access to quality, affordable health coverage by expanding Medical Assistance and creating the new Health Insurance Partnership.
According to his official website, Martin O’Malley wants to build on the Affordable Care Act to extend affordable coverage to more Americans. As President, he wants to work with states to close the “coverage gap” by encouraging every state to expand Medicaid coverage. He has also proposed giving immigrants access to Medicaid and the ACA health insurance exchanges.
Women’s Health Care
As President, Martin O’Malley will promote universal access to prenatal care and will hold states accountable for providing quality prenatal care for those who are uninsured. He wants early access to comprehensive prenatal care to be a major quality measure for health systems and states, as a percentage of births.
As President, Martin O’Malley will provide funding and hold states accountable for safety net systems that ensure that all women in the United States can access essential reproductive health services. This includes equity in access to long-acting reversible contraception, and support for education so that women can make choices for themselves based on accurate information.
Immigration
According to his official website, Martin O’Malley’s goal is to use bold, executive action to provide immediate relief to the millions of new Americans waiting for comprehensive immigration reform. He wants to defer action to the greatest possible number of new Americans, to expand access to waivers and to expand access to naturalization for all new Americans.
Education
According to his official website, Martin O’Malley wants to allow all Americans with student loan debt to be able to refinance their loans at lower rates. He also wants to tie minimum payments for student loans to incomes, and to freeze tuition rates.
Jobs
According to his official website, Martin O’Malley wants to make national service a gateway to good jobs and careers. Young Americans will complete a year of service, which will be the pathway to high-quality jobs and satisfying careers. He wants private businesses and industry groups to help lead the expansion of national service, provide good job training to young people, and to give preference to those who have completed a year of national service.
