Mike Huckabee served as the 44th Governor of Arkansas from 1996-2007. He ran an unsuccessful campaign for President of the United States in 2008. In 2012, he became a host on Fox News Channel, and stepped down when he decided to make a second attempt at running for President in 2016.
Health Care
According to his official website, Mike Huckabee promises that as President, he will repeal Obamacare. His website says “We need solutions and choices – not government mandates and new taxes”. His website does not include any information about what Mike Huckabee thinks would be a solution or replacement for Obamacare.
According to his official website, he claims that as President he will protect Social Security and Medicare. He also states that he will “fix the VA and give our heroes greater choices” and will “solve the disability claims crisis and inexcusable wait times”. No further details are given about his plan to accomplish those goals.
Women’s Health Care
According to his official website, Mike Huckabee points out that as Governor of Arkansas he signed a “fetal protection act”, banned “partial birth abortion”, and established waiting periods that prevent women from accessing abortion.
His website also has a petition that compares abortion to slavery, and that includes a video from the Center for Medical Progress. (Those videos have been found to be highly edited and are not credible). The petition calls for defunding of Planned Parenthood. It should be noted that defunding Planned Parenthood would prevent low-income women, and those who use Medicaid, from accessing cancer screenings, pap smears, STD testing and treatment, and contraception.
Immigration
According to his official website, Mike Huckabee says that as President, he will “reject President Obama’s unconstitutional executive orders” regarding immigration. Mike Huckabee also will “oppose amnesty”, and he wants to “secure the border now”. There is no specific information that explains his plans beyond those phrases.
Education
According to his official website, Mike Huckabee says: “I also oppose Common Core and believe we should abolish the federal department of education. We must kill Common Core and restore common sense”. It should be noted that federal funding that helps public schools accommodate for students with disabilities comes from the department of education.
Jobs
According to his official website, Mike Huckabee wants to “reform our colleges and universities so they make sense for the jobs of tomorrow”.
