Fold3 Gives Free Access to War of 1812 Collection

folded flag You can find plenty of genealogy resources on the internet. Some of them are free for genealogists to use, and others are not. Once in a while, a genealogy website gives free access to certain records. Right now, Fold3 is giving free access to their entire War of 1812 Collection. The free access will end on June 30, 2012.

Fold3 is a genealogy website that can provide you with convenient access to United States military records. In addition to the records, the website also has photos, personal documents, and the stories of the men and women who served. Genealogists can use Fold3 to learn more about the lives of their relatives and ancestors who were in the military. The name Fold3 refers to the way that you fold the United States flag at the funerals of men and women who served in the military.

Earlier this year, Fold3 gave genealogists free access to their collection of Black History records. This may have been their way of celebrating Black History Month, which takes place every February. That particular collection is no longer open for free access. However, Fold3 is currently offering free access to a different collection of records.

Right now, you can go to Fold3 and enjoy free access to their entire War of 1812 Collection. All of it will be offered for free through June 30, 2012. It includes all four of the categories of records that are part of this collection.

The War of 1812 Pension Files collection is always free to access. The first pension applications were based on disability or death of a soldier. Starting in 1871, they were based on service. Genealogists can learn about their ancestor’s rank, place of residence, age, date of birth, and time of service, from a pension file.

Three other groups of records, that are not usually offered for free, are accessible for free right now. These include: the War of 1812 Prize Cases, Southern Dist Court, NY, the Letters Received By the Adjutant General, and the War of 1812 Service Records.

Fold3 is also celebrating the Two Hundredth Anniversary of the War of 1812 with a great deal for genealogists who want to get a Fold3 membership. You can save $30.00 on a Fold3 membership this month. It is usually $79.95, but it is being offered for $49.95 from right now until June 30, 2012. The website says that this comes to only $4.16 per month.
