For years we’ve been hearing the benefits of honey. When I was a child, my mother used honey and lemon juice for sore throats. Honey for many people is a great addition to a recipe and can be substituted for sugar. But some of us are allergic to honey. In my case it causes tinnitus. Sounds bizarre but I have proved it over time to be true.
Tinnitus is that constant ringing noise in your ears. In my case it sounded like I had a steam train in my head. It gets worse when it is quiet and makes it very hard to sleep.
Doctors were unable to help greatly. I arrived at the cause of the problem myself- honey. At first I thought it was just me being weird but others I know who were regular honey eaters have encountered a similar reaction. Stop the honey and the problem disappears.
Migraines are another health problem triggered at times by certain foods. For some people red wine, oranges, cheese and chocolate are triggers to migraine. For others, these have no effect.
Mick and I have found that even one glass or two of Chardonnay can induce headaches that start in the neck and travel up to the skull, in which case it’s not worth having a glass. Yet other white wines like Riesling produce no effect whatsoever.
Obviously it is not the same for everyone. Sometimes with food, it is knowing your own body and what things react with it.
It is through a food diary that we were able to eliminate some of the foods that for me were a catalyst, wheat, gluten and honey among them.
If you are experiencing health problems can I suggest keeping a food diary for a while? In it list everything you eat during the day, even if you take a headache tablet or painkiller. It may be time consuming but it is a sure fire way to find out what foods are causing problems in your body. Then you can eliminate them and be healthier.
