Football Playoff Party Fun

left

The NFL Playoffs continue this Sunday as the road to the Super Bowl heats up.

Of course, no place is hotter right now than Green Bay, Wisconsin, where the Packers are looking to win back-to-back Super Bowls.

I happen to live near legendary Lambeau Field–a.k.a. Party Central–and while I don’t have tickets to the big game versus the New York Giants, I will be partying it up along with the rest of the state’s residents. Only our pre-Super Bowl shindigs will be taking place in the comfort of our homes.

If you are planning to host a NFL Playoff party to root on your favorite team with family and friends, consider the following tips:

Decorations: Use your team’s colors as a theme for your party. Then, add embellishments, such as pennants, football helmets, pom poms, foam fingers, whistles, and inflatable goalposts to various rooms where your guests will be gathering to watch the game. Our local Party City is selling team-specific party decorations, though you could easily purchase generic decor, including balloons and steamers to add to the festive look of your home.

Food: Personally, I would suggest hosting a potluck. Doing so takes the pressure off of you, plus it allows your guests to sample a variety of dishes. If you are hosting a huge crowd, then stick with an easy game day menu featuring simple party foods, such as: chips and dip, Buffalo Wings, hot dogs, brats, popcorn, pretzels, nuts, chili, loaded baked potatoes, and brownies for dessert.

Set-up: If you are looking to really spice up your playoff party, then extend the football theme to your serving dishes. Wal-Mart and Target carry bowls shaped like footballs that are ideal for serving chips, popcorn, trail mix, buns and other snacks. Another option is to use trays that have the name of your favorite team emblazoned on the top. For beverages, fill large coolers with ice and arrange bottles of Gatorade in it to mimic the ones you see on the sidelines.
