For Love or For God?

Natalie loved the Lord having walked with Him from a very young age. She was not one to waste her time on just any guy who took interest in her. Natalie was looking for someone she could have a meaningful relationship with that would hopefully one day lead to holy matrimony. She didn’t expect to find someone online, but she did and they met, and it was butterflies in the heart at first sight.

Christopher was handsome young fellow right around the same age as Natalie. They lived within reasonable distance and continued a relationship with one another; one that became deep and meaningful. One problem, Christopher wasn’t a believer.

Natalie was torn. The relationship was serious but there was an unsettling in her heart. If she was to go further in the relationship, she wanted, in fact, needed to be committed to someone who held respect and love for her Lord. She recalled the Bible passage from 2 Corinthians 6:14, “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers…” She was faced with the most painful decision she’d ever made: to choose God over a man she was truly in love with.

Christopher held good values and was a hard working intelligent man. I’m sure he was just as devastated as Natalie was about going their separate ways. Not having a relationship with the Lord, it must have been difficult for him to understand what on earth was so great about God that Natalie would sever a good relationship for. So he met with a pastor. Natalie didn’t want Christopher to ask the Lord in his heart just so she could feel justified staying with him; she prayed he would desire a meaningful relationship on his own.

The Lord was working on Christopher through Natalie. The pastor Christopher met with just happen to have led a similar life and as a result able to relate to him. Christopher thought about the things the pastor had shared and how great God must have been to Natalie that she would choose Him over himself. It was Natalie’s obedience to God that won Christopher over and inspired him to turn his life over to Jesus Christ. Natalie and Christopher were married about one year later and have been married since and blessed with a beautiful son.
