We women have our thunder thighs, but men seem to have their own problems too. Belly fat is more common in men than in women. Belly fat is more commonly associated with an increased risk of some serious health problems, such as heart disease, adult-onset diabetes, resistance to insulin, stroke, metabolic syndrome, hypertriglyceridemia, sleep apnea, low LDL levels, and certain forms of cancer.
As men and women age we do tend to have more fatty deposits. Concentrating on healthier lifestyles pertaining to eating and activity will help to combat this problem. Some genetics, as well, can predispose us to this, but it can be helped with concentrated effort.
To determine if you have too much belly fat you can take a measurement of your waist. There are more precise ways to determine this, such as your body mass index, comparing your weight to your height or comparing your hip to waist ratio, but measuring around your waist is a good indicator.
When measuring your waist make sure that you are not clothed around the abdominal area. This area is located right above your hipbone. Do not measure too tightly, but not loose either. Fit the measuring tape around your belly snugly without putting pressure into the skin. Make sure that your posture is relaxed. If your belly measures more than 40 inches then you need to lose some of the belly fat, as you are putting yourself at an increased risk for the above.
Starting immediately, eat healthier. Incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet and step up the exercise. I know that time is hard to come by, but for something like this you need to find the time or make the time, however you wish to look at it. Not having time to exercise is no excuse. Get healthier today by losing belly fat.
