Education is such an important thing to attain—especially in today’s crazy world. Gone are the days where just working is enough. It seems like more and more, you have to have a degree to find a good job—and an advanced degree for many professions.
I feel grateful to have completed my degrees while I was able. I have seen the benefits of my learning come into play time and again in both my professional life and in my personal life. The For the Strength of Youth pamphlet promises that education “opens the doors of opportunity that may otherwise be closed to you.” I’ve seen that principle at work in my own life as I’ve had opportunities come to me that wouldn’t have been there without my education, my desire to continue learning and expanding my skills, and hard work. But education isn’t just about a degree.
Education encompasses everything from a formal schooling, spiritual education, and learning about people and cultures. Some of the most fascinating and amazing people I know are those who have a thirst for knowledge and aren’t afraid to learn from everyone around them. This enthusiasm and desire to gain understanding make these people a joy to talk to and to listen to.
Of course, a spiritual education is a very important aspect in our lives as well. The more we know about the gospel, the principles we should live by, and the plan of salvation, the more we understand the choices we should make and the consequences of those actions. Our spiritual education also helps us understand how the Lord would have us act when faced with difficult trials in life or with life decisions. Seminary, Institute, Sunday school, church publications, and other resources are available to help us make the most of our education—one of the only things we get to take with us beyond our mortal existence.
